I'm with Durp on this one,

The best and only true ways that Shane Blacks movie could reference Predators would be to possibly mention either the character of Noland, portrayed by Laurence Fishburne, having gone AWOL or the character of Isabelle (Alice Braga) joining the OWLF (Other-World Life Form) before she was sent undercover to the IDF (Israel Defense Force).

Good question, I wonder if he would acknowledge all of that?...

Unless they're directly involved with the plot talking about them would kind of seem like unneeded exposition. 

Predators storywise is a very isolated incident since the movie ends with them still on the planet with no way of leaving. I'd think the mention would go more with special forces going missing in the field rather than mentioning the super preds. That way you still tie it in without making it too forced.

Indeed it does. However his statements about not ignoring the existence of, or essentially "writing off" the events of Predator 2 and Predators makes me wonder if he'll drop any subtle hints to them.

Include a reference if it serves the story, otherwise not much point.  If the film is set on Earth, it could be the characters have no knowledge of the events of Predators.  Also I believe Black has said his film will pre-date Predators.

I have mixed feelings about IMAX. If the film is in its original version then it's fine, better in fact. But if they have to adjust the picture from the 2.39:1 ratio to a 1.85:1 ratio, then I disapprove. I can't stand losing part of the picture. Drives me nuts. I never watch anything that's been "formatted" from widescreen to fullscreen.

@Membrane, that's awesome! I've seen some pretty sweet Predator cosplay and the dreads seem to always be one of the hardest things to get right. Good to know what the official dreads were made out of, for anyone looking to make a costume as film-accurate as possible.

I worked with a guy who worked at the company who provided the "dreadlocks" for the original 'Predator' movie.  It is foam that is used to fill in the cracks for joints in concrete before you apply sealants over it.  Called backer rod.

Curious how influential this novel will be for The Predator. I'm assuming we'll get more insight to the Predator culture.

I haven't seen him in a role I didn't like. He seems to bring his A-game with each casting, so I'm thrilled he's on board for The Predator.

Please, no. He's not needed. Predators was good and didn't miss Ah-nold at all, imo. Arnold has become kind of an old caricature of his former self.

In actuality ADI will only create Predators based on the concepts provided to them. Let's just hope they don't look too different!

I hated AvP:R, but the design of that Predator was the only good thing about it.

aww crap, AVP's predator design sucks! The Predator mandibles barely moved other than flare out just a little bit, a far cry from Stan Winston's Predators that could open and close their mandibles. 

ADI didn't handle the Predator effects for PREDATORS, that was KNB EFX (http://www.knbefxgroup.com/).

Hope they look better than the predators in Predators.

So what is the significance of a production title in general?

And god I hope James Franco is no longer involved...
