As Shane Black's Predator nears production, casting for the project has continued at a rapid pace. The latest addition to the film is child star Jacob Tremblay, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The trade also confirms some details regarding his character, and his relation to another major member of the cast:
Tremblay will play the son of the character played by Holbrook, the latter playing an ex-Marine who discovers the existence of fierce aliens but that no one believes they exist. The son is autistic and bullied in school but becomes a key player in the fight due to his preternatural ability to learn languages.
This summary is extremely intriguing. As a non-combatant, Tremblay's character would not be perceived as a threat by the Yautja, and their honor code may prevent them killing a human child. It also appears that Tremblay's character may help Holbrook's team of Ex-marines in deciphering the Yautja language so that they may have a tactical advantage.
As the other cast roles have come to light, a picture of the plot comes into focus. Holbrook's team of Ex-marines may come into contact with the government at some point. The revelation that Tremblay's character will play a child character to a lead is especially interesting in light of the fact that Shane Black has denied that the movie will take place in the suburbs, contrary to recent reports.
Jacob Tremblay's film credits include 'Room', which he starred alongside Brie Larson. Tremblay earned a lot of awards and nominations for his role in that film, including the Critics Choice award for Best Young Performer. Tremblay will also star in the upcoming Colin Trevorrow film, 'The Book of Henry'.
20th Century Fox, Executive Producer Bill Bannerman and Producer John Davis will release Shane Black's The Predator February 9th, 2018. The movie will star Boyd Holbrook and Trevante Rhodes as Ex-Marines. Olivia Munn will co-star in the film as a scientist. Sterling K. Brown will play a government agent. Keegan-Michael Kay and Thomas Jane will also star.
