yeah id heard that aswell. if that's the case then there is tech left from the first predator, possibly. if arnie survived the blast its pretty safe bet its shoulder canon survived. plus the pod the predator came down in at the beginning of the movie. could infact thinking about it go the way the post says. some weapons contractor to the military find the pod, shoulder canon and have a secret facility they take them to. a predator is sent down to destroy the facility along with the tech. think predator needs a human antagonist in a similar way weyland-yutani is in alien
I hope they go for something more different, unless its not the same Predator in the first movie... as well i doubt there would be much of body left....
And the Technology would have to be pretty indestructible.
I thought the new movie was to be set as a direct sequel to the Original Predator though.
I'd be willing to give it a chance. I feel like we may get to see something closer to the "Humans utilizing Predator tech" topic I started a while back. Until we see the first trailer I'll remain optimistic.
really hope this isn't the true plot. needs to go back to basics with more detail into theyr society. predator needs a boost since the avp cross over as does alien, but this sounds lazy writing to me just to get a predator movie out due to ridleys' AC and possible alien5 being done
They do indeed. I'm very eager to learn more about the plot.
"The son is autistic and bullied in school but becomes a key player in the fight due to his preternatural ability to learn languages."
Very interesting.
I sense that there will be humans using Yautja weapons against the predator itself, since predators mostly don't speak they only roar , some predator weapons display Yautja words if im not mistaken.
Interesting angle, so Holdbrook is the "crazy guy" who believes in the Predator. Yet, they reference more than one, which makes me wonder if there will in fact be multiple Predators in this film!
The child's ability to decode languages is also extremely intriguing.
The Predator has to look bad ass or else it will ruin the whole movie if he looks like a skinny wimp. He has to look intimidating, a REALLY big guy! Otherwise you lose the Holy shit I'm scared of that guy effect. :) And cool ass weaponry! No love story bullshit like Requim. Stick to the action! Thanks!
Characters: I would like to see an elite military member from a tier one unit engaging in clandestine work. DEVGRU, Seals, Green Berets, Detachment Delta, CIA SAD, Etc. These guys should be the best of the best, and maybe they should get some real veterans in there. The goal should be to have them look as much like real tier one operators as possible. Hand to hand combat would be cool, but it has to be realistic. I liked the ending with Arnold in the first Predator because it didnt make Arnold look too macho manhandling a Predator, and also Arnold had to resort to his basic survival skills once he lost his weapons.
Setting: Some specific places I think would be cool: Middle East (Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Etc.), Africa (Somalia, Darfur, Nigeria, Congo countries in the diamond areas like Sierra Leone), North Korea, Balkans. Instead of one Predator and one location which is what all Predator and AvP films have been, it would be cool to break it up into where there is a primary location and maybe some other secondary locations around the world.
Plot: Would be nice to see Arnold and Danny Glover return for a cameo or supporting role... maybe they have become friends and are working together to learn more about what the government is doing to find the predators and get their hands on predator technology. They could be doing private investigations into predator sightings so they can track one down themselves, and learn more about the predator species.
Maybe the main characters should be the tier one unit sent by the cia, military, and military contractors to hunt down and capture or kill a Predator to study its technology and physiology. Or to imprison and attempt to communicate with it.
I still think the angle of Humans exploiting Predator technology would be a great way to take the franchise - especially in such the technological age we currently live in.
But it is great to see casting heating up! Soon it will be filming and that means set photos! I'm very much looking forward to this.
At first I was skeptical but I'm willing to see what he can bring to The Predator. I'm sure he is capable of serious roles, they say comedy is one of the more challenging roles to play and that comedy actors have an easier time adjusting emotions on-screen than non-comedy oriented ones. Time will tell, but I remain confident Shane Black knows what he's doing.
I think he is a great fit to be added to the core group that goes against the Yajuta; bringing organic comedic dialogue here and there to help break a little but not too much tension in parts fitting
I would say Wolf I love Wolf but I really have to say Greyback!!!

Looks like a Box office Hit.
The criminal with skills angle was alright in Predators but for me, I like the concept of a team of Black Ops facing off against a Predator. They've already covered the military, police and criminal angle. I definitely think watching some huge, 6'5, 260-pound MMA fighter taking on a Predator in unarmed hand-to-hand combat would be entertaining to watch. We've really not seen anything like that yet.
Is it just me, or am I the only person who can't see what I wrote for OP?
Edit: Nevermind.
Exactly, it's not like Pacific Rim or films needing massive monsters. Predator works best with a guy in a suit. The CGI can benefit in ways of enhancing the Predator's energy based weapons and the cloak effect, but when it comes to the creature itself, CGI is unnecessary.
I really like Black's comparison to Jurassic Park, arguably one of the best films to blend CGI and practical effects. (Looked more real than Jurassic World imo)
Predator is one of the series where CGI isn't really needed for the most case at least in large quantities.
The character never really had such complex gear that it wouldn't be easy to do with practical effects.
Yeah i'm not a fan of either but there are parts of Requiem I did like. Predator Clean up crew, Xenomorphs feeding, and they showed what could be as close to a Praetorian with their Predalien, and I liked their Predalien design to be honest but the rest of the film not so much.
That is an impressive resume. I'm quite happy with this news, I expect great things from him! Thanks for sharing this up!
WOLF!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe introduce a female predator, I've seen concept arts of them but I would actually like to see a female predator filmed in a predator movie or game.
I liked Wolf a heck of a lot better than Scar, I hated the first AVP movie, especially its director.
Bump up the badassery
Wolf makes Scar look like a pansy
I don't think The Predator will be set in any one specific location for the entire duration of the film. I would personally love to see it set in a military facility, where the government has been testing on Predators for years - and either one escapes, or a band of new Predators come to destroy it, similar to the game Predator: Concrete Jungle.
Not too surprising they wouldn't actually use the suburbs, we saw the reaction to being put in the city
In the forest will be awesome!
@Starbeast: Well if they defunct Predators then they should do the same to that stupid AVP movie. I din't really care Predators all that much either but the Super Predators did at least added some to their over lying lore, I think it wouldn't of hurt if the film makers could of expanded more on them (and of course make them stronger, that was disappointing that the super predators were weaker than a normal yaut'ja) but nope they wanted Predators to be a homage movie to the original Predator. I just hope The Predator is more original.
No, The Predator should not acknowledge "super predators". In fact, it should do everything it can to defunct them. They are rubbish.
@Chris Picard
Agree
Yeah.. I would have been totally okay if AvP had stayed exclusive to videogames and comics. The films lacked severe qualities reminiscent of the respective franchises. I'm glad they're taking each one back to its roots.
Yeah, Predators was a disappointment to say the least but at least it was better than the stinking pile that was AVP.
My expectations for this film keep going up. The more like the original, the better! I'm glad Shane knows what this Predator movie needs and is willing to fight for it. He's right, we don't want a PG-13 rated children's story and we want the characters to be charismatic and funny. It's what made the original so iconic.
not as excited as i was.....Del toro is such a good pick, but o well
I personally rather liked Predators, so I hope there are some Super Predators in the new film. Although I didn't even realize they had a name, heh. As others have said, though: as long as it's relevant to the story. The story is of course the higher priority.
I did like Predators, but I felt that it was actually a little over-written. I thought the twist with the doctor being a serial killer and somehow feeling at home on the planet was fu#king stupid. It was an unneeded twist because the whole situation was cool anyway.
So I hope they don't put stupid twists in the new film just for the sake of trying to keep the audience "on their toes." Just some more nice set pieces, cool action, macho greatness, and fun sci-fi violence. That's all it needs.
