I think I have to watch it again.
Making a clan would be cool but only if you kill enough queens or something like that
LOL GMan. Agreed though, Fugitive Predator made the film. Loved every scene he was in.
Also, I want to add: Even if this movie does flop hard, it is not going to be the last Predator movie. It may be another 10-15 years before we see another--But there will always be more Predator movies.
It's an IP with recognition. No studio gives up on that regardless of what happens. Look at the Terminator franchise, or WB's mess with the DCEU. And as a Godzilla fan I can safely say the 60+ years of low points and Toho announcing one movie or another is "the last one" hasn't ended the series.
So no, this will not be the last Predator movie. It won't even be the second to last. We may be a little bit older, but there will always be more Predator movies.
The best: The Fugitive Predator every time he was on screen.
The worst: Almost everything else...
It's going to need a world wide haul of $176-220 million before it's considered a moderate success--Or what most like to call the breakeven range. That's quite the climb. Even then it's not out of the woods if it wants to be declared a win for Fox.
That said there's 4 territories it hasn't even opened in--3 of them have October release dates. So it'll get a quiet boost next month.
It pretty much died in Japan thanks to Fox deciding to release it there in theaters and VOD on the same day. It did the film no favors and actually hit way under its predicted opening. VOD projections were even worse, because now everyone just assumes they can put off watching it and get to it on their own time. Fox self-destructed in that market.
That was my argument too. It's enjoyable if you take it for what it is.
Seeing it tonight with a friend. I heard dumb fun and action-packed, and to leave your brain at the door. Sounds fine to me... I didn't need my brain when I watched 'Predator' in 1987. :-)
It just doesn't have the same pull overseas as it does in North America.
Floppidy flop!
The high point was seeing the Predator put on the mask after escaping capture
The low point was almost anything with the mega predator since when that came in the movie really lowered in quality imo.
dk, have you seen it yet?
I encourage everyone lurking around to go and see this film.
In case it's the last one of the franchise, no matter how good or bad people say it is, it's a historical moment you'd want to tell to your great grand children about: I've seen it in theater. Those were the days...
But before talking to your great grand children you might want to express your immediate feelings here.
For me, the best image that pops up, and the first, is the pure evil face of the ultimate predator hanging upside down in a tree like a bat out of hell after he tore the head off of one of the Loonies (don't remember which one). That ugly MF looks less like the Predator we know, but it's eyes are, like someone would say, "unclouded by conscience". Pure monstrosity.
The worst image is of McKenna sliding down the plasticky looking shield of the ultimate predator ship. Man, that was lame!
I think the movie (or the franchise) would have benefited more if the face of the predators was shown more. Not the size of this dear impressed me but its face, precisely its round evil eyes.
In its defence I didn't feel it pushed the global warming agenda directly.
I felt this was the victim of what you rightly argued with over-referencing / recycling from previous films.
It was used more as a convenient plot device to link the predators preference for warm environments to the DNA upgrade plot device.....that also tried to tie-in and link the Yautja's spine-ripping ways lol.
Honestly, I thought Predator 2 Extreme Heat Wave was more pushy in the global warming aspect.
I think modifying your DNA would upset the elders unless your part of a bad blood faction.
Oooooh joining Clans would be an awesome mechanic. Make the game similiar to mount & blade where you can either join a clan or make your own if you so choice.
well David may have created his own version of the xenomorphs or if David did make the xenomorphs, that severed xeno tail could have been from another engineer creation. Because the engineers have the technology to make xenomorphs and xenomorph-like creatures.
Social/political aspects like global warming could harm any movie imo. If nothing else, it might date the film to a specific time- that may not age well 5 years from now. The origional Predator is dated, but not for those reasons.
I have yet to see it, but I could agree on what sounds like marginalizing/minimizing psychiatric conditions could seem insensitive to those whom have or know of people whom suffer from similar issues. However, it doesn't sound like the movie sets out to make any serious statements about anything in particular.
Nice review and it makes me want to see it even more now.
I think you should start off as a low ranked predator before they go on their first hunt. So as in all open world games you start off with nothing. And as the game progresses you earn new gear and weapons that you can choose from. Example.... heavy, medium and light armor types, close ranged weapons like wrist blade and the staff, or even become more of a stealth/trapper class. And even make up some kind of heavy class " a chain plasma gun would be dope".
By doing that already allows role systems for co-op play. Also allowing a pretty deep skill tree. Let's say that after a hunt is over you get paid by "honor points" like some one on here already said. How cool would it be to go back to your home planet and spend that " money" at a predator armory. Then we could also get real deep and say you kill enough aliens you can then research their DNA and gain properties that you can apply to your own biology for example being able to climb on walls or grow an alien tail.
I say make the game have a planet or something where people can go and pvp. Or have other players be allowed to join in your hunt and try to steal it from you. Because in the comics the predators have a pretty bad ass rule set they have to abide by.
Just some ideas I think are cool
You friend Jay The Zombie
The characters really made this movie for me. If it wasn't for the loonies I wouldn't have been invested to the point I was. Shame the movie kind of went downhill when the big Predator showed up. Really would have been better if they just had the small one chasing after its tech the whole time.
I think it's worse than Predator 1&2, but I'd watch it again over Predators.
^ If someone messed up the timeline technically it was the Alien prequels since AVP came first.
Xenotaris I liked it too, I was pleasantly entertained.
Hopefully there is many more Alien and Predators to come :)
You remember that David created the xenomorph, right?
And in The Predator we see that spear made from a xenomorph tail?
Somebody must have messed up the timeline somehow.
@daliens
What?
The Weyland Yutani corporation doesn't exist during The Predator time (or even in that universe, if you ignore AVP).
Also i'm pretty sure the Yaut'ja Scientists gave Fugitive human DNA against his will.
David doesn't exist back 2018, (whether you include Alien/Prometheus as part of Predator canon or not) David wasn't created until the later half of the 21st century.
Those predators riding tanks in human clothing makes me think of the planet of the apes with predators instead of apes.
That could be a good story after the predators invaded the Earth.
Or was if for Weyland-Yutani to face the xenomorph army of David?
Why had that predator human DNA after all? Was he also created by the engineers on the predator home planet?
Or was it David?
By the looks is David’s hand, and that was probably his biggest frustration, being unable to create anything in his own perfect composure, only ugly MFs.
Agree, but I do hope there will be a (baseline)predator-human alliance
Ummm the Avengers are still humans(esque) depending on member.
I think the fugitive didn't want the humans to have the "predator killer", he left it on earth to hide it so either his fellow rebel preds could find it or when the time was right, he could use it against ultimate pred.
I would perfer if the female yaut'ja were more feminine looking.
We don't know that the fugitive predator wanted to give the suit to mankind, these are only allegations. He was not cooperative with the humans he met save for Ms. Bracket whom he did not kill as she was naked and performing the quarantine procedure.
My guess is he wanted to deliver the suit for the next Avengers film but he was captured by the Fox guys so he could not accomplish his mission, ugly MF.
I liked the film, sure it has its flaws like Alien Covenant has its flaws. But, its still better than AVP (2004)
I just hope there are still "normal" yaut'ja left in the galaxy.
But at first I thought a female predator was going to come out of the pod, like a yaut'ja huntress princess.
What if the ultimete predator was a female, the big mama predator in the mating season, killing the cheating male predators. She was hot, she was on fire. She even had friendly dogs. And she saved Quinn McKenna's life killing the predator that was strangling him.
At one time one of the Loonies asked if that's a male. Unfortunately nobody answered the question.
If they do include females, lets hope it is what the fans want, and not cheesy version of whoever is behind the movie. I think their look and character should be something that adds to the movies, and not just another missed opportunity. I've read pretty much all of the books. Not sure I like the idea of them looking the same, but idea of females being a bit more of a handful has potential to add humor etc to the movie.
My confusion was that the predator who came with it, didn't do a great job at being "friendly" to deliver the tech. What's up with that?
I'm with ya, I just want more of each. I don't care if they retcon and attack the timeline from different angles, I just want The Predator to perform well enough that we get a sequel. More Alien and Predator for years to come. I hope.
But maybe it earned its place in Disneyland. Time will tell. The intentions are obvious.
If Ridley succeeds with Merlin I hope we will get the Covenant sequel.
I wished The Predator could help somehow.
Given this moment when there is so much uncertainty about the future of both franchises I had expected more from The Predator.
For me, it did not deliver.
Definitely it's by no account a classic or on par with the original 2 films, but it did do a good job of keeping the audience engaged and pacing at a decent rate. I much preferred the Loonies to the crew chosen for Predators.
I think I went in with pretty low expectations given the reshoots and whatnot, but I found myself pleasantly entertained throughout the entire film. Even though the ending was questionable haha
After Covenant I've given up comparing new sequels and reboots to the original movies and am accepting them for what they are and in all fairness I'm glad to see new Predator movies being made. This film really opened up the lore quite a bit and sets up for all kinds of new avenues which can be explored in new films.
Unlike Alien: Covenant I expect a Predator movie to gross me out, be chalk full of cliche 80s style cheese and contain a relentless amount of passive comedy mixed with serious action. With The Predator, that's exactly what I got. Alien however is a whole other ball park - that I expect true suspense and realism.

I noticed that the new predator looks more like a frog than a crab. Is this another attempt to involve romantically with Disney?
