It was revealed earlier this week that Dan Trachtenberg, director of Prey, Predator: Killer of Killers and the most recent Predator: Badlands had signed a fresh first-look deal with Paramount. This prompted many fans within the community to worry that this shift to a rival studio meant the future of Predator would be left to another filmmaker. Since the news broke however, Trachtenberg himself has revealed that although he's signed a fresh deal with Paramount, his commitment to the Yautja remains.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Dan explained that while timing of future projects will be a bit of a factor concerning when he can commit to the next Predator movie, he urges the next Yautja project will be developed simultaneously with the treasure trove of new IP he now has access to:
Well, Predator, I'm in this zone of dreaming up more, like I said, as I had been previously. And then Paramount is this incredible opportunity to make original things that have been in my heart and mind for a long time. I'm thrilled to have a place to make them theatrically. And they also have some very cool IP that I could now get to think about, like, "Oh, what might I do with that?" So, it's a simultaneous thing, but Paramount now is definitely really exciting, and I've been writing stuff to hopefully make there.
...
We now have this cool story, we now have these other characters that would be cool to make more with, but is there anything else that we haven't seen in the franchise, or anything else in sci-fi that would be so cool to do as another entry point?" It's like all three of [my movies] — Prey, Killers of Killers and Badlands — are entry points of the franchise. So, I'm thinking along those lines, as well.
Previous to Dan's move to Paramount, the filmmaker had expressed great interest in developing a proper sequel to his first entry in the franchise, Prey – continuing Naru's story. However, interpreting his latest statements suggest he may be contemplating another fresh entry, with new characters and a completely new approach once again. The formula has worked well for him so far, so why not?
