If we're to expect some changes or refinements of the creature and weapons designs in this new movie, One might conjecture they would be advances, maybe even evolutionary ones like those supah-peedidilators was supposed to be.
BUT, while I doubt the director guy has anything like this in mind, another way to go when talking design changes could be a Primordial Predator. Something more primitive, brutish, with almost steam-punky type weaponry . . .
Sorry all. I guess I'm typing as I'm thinking this up. Better to get myself and maybe some of you offline and onto the drawing board to see just where that last concept might lead.
Okay, so calling this a reboot is incorrect? Cool. Why would any storyteller want to start over when you've got such a sweet character premise to use already? it sounds like whatever creature and weaponry design changes this new film may feature should be considered refinements, advances, maybe even evolutionary step-ups as was inferred by the introduction of what y'all are calling Super-Predators. I still think your basic Yautja is more than formidable, but it seems its very nature is to keep pushing its own species to achieve next-level talent. Hopefully whatever changes this new movie brings will be kept along those lines and not just reinventing the wheel without good reason.
This would make an awesome contest, Chris, who can design the best "alternate" predator design.
Right @Chris.
I could really see this as the "hybrid" that was mentioned. But, until they release actual imagery for the predator(s) in the film, I'll keep optimistic and accepting of any creature designs released.
Nice! I love the spinal necklace with the emerald beetle.
The third concept from the top is my favorite, it's the closest to the original with a darker, more menacing twist I feel.
@DeDAgheN, yeah unfortunately not many people can appreciate art for what it is and view it with an open mind. I made sure to clarify that these are not related to the film in any way, but sadly that's not stopping some of the backlash. The point was to showcase a talented artist and a design similar to the "organically different" look Shane Black teased.
I quite like the mandibles, it makes him look noble, much like an eagle. Also love the double wrist blades.
i like the hawk beak shape inspiration for head and mandibles, almost crab-like. its beady eyes, and two arm blades. cool conceptual art! stylish
I think it looks cool. But I'm not sure about the mandibles. I prefer the the normal style. I love the double wrist blades though.
That's what I was thinking Facehuggers!.
Of course, this image is bringing out the haters in force.
Definitely reminiscent of the original, unused insectoid concepts!

The Predator will not be dissing Predator 2 by any means. It will take place after both the original and P2. Black even stated in an interview months ago that his Predator sequel would not discredit Predators either. It's all one big inclusive universe.
348 days to go ;(
Awesome, love Yvonne Strahovski!
Dude, WTF is up with him over-casting this thing? I guess no one ever learned anything from AVPR...
WTF too many cooks in this thing, guess they didn't get the PREDATORS memo!
I never really considered them as "super". I just see them as another race of predator. They appear more devout, they take their "hunt" to a different level to the other hunters. They may train harder, longer to become better hunters. I personally cannot see The Predator mentioning them, although Shane Black has said he intends to make this film "epic". I think it will be based on earth (the appearance of a kid is my only reason for this) so I believe it will be the race of Predator from the first movie.

There was some good bits (ones hot ripped-off wholesale from other films I mean), but overall it was average.
That said, we'd need to know what Shane Black has supposedly said about Predator 2 before making a judgement.
I'm a huge fan of Predator 2, and as S.M. pointed out, there's no reason why he'd diss it. It's a solid sequel that creatively expanded lore.
They do all look pretty badass!
Has he in fact, dissed or indicated that he's ignoring Predator 2?
Wait so Hawkins was alive all this time? Lol, awesome, I can't wait.
"shit happens"
I love how they show a bunch of badass marines holding guns with stern faces while there is a dopey kid in the centre of them with a bright yellow jacket.
Little different group compared to that of '87, especially in terms of pound-for-pound muscle. :-)

- GO TO THE CHOPPA!!!
Too much about this sequel really is concerning, and hell I hated the frack outta PREDATORS!
There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man. We're all gonna die.

Yeah way too early to have any real concerns since we haven't really seen anything yet. Even if the first trailer doesn't blow me away I wouldn't write the movie off completely since the A:C trailer didn't really impress me, but I'm still looking forward to the movie.
@Gavin, you bring up fair concerns, of course, but as Dr Curt Connors pointed out, the same could be said for many films recently. Writers don't always produce the best content, but sometimes they get it right. Same goes for actors - when I first heard Danny McBride would star in Alien: Covenant I was taken back a bit, but after seeing the trailer, I get the vibe he will do a great job in his role.
As for the plot direction - it's new, but it also taps into the lore we experienced with as you mentioned, Concrete Jungle - which I loved playing as a kid.
Until I see a trailer, I will keep my judgement to a minimum. We haven't seen anything yet.
Well, I am worried because is fragmented and confused. I mean, the cast seems okay at least. I don't anything about Holbrook really, I think Munn is a solid actress, and Tremblay is alright himself. Also, Key seems to be an odd addition to the cast, but damn he is skilled and talented as an actor, so I don't see a problem on his end. Only thing would be if they didn't write a character that is necessarily likeable (subjective).
The writing and directing is impossible to for me to worry about currently. Black has had some success with a couple different types of films (Iron Man 3 being divisive among critics and fans plot wise) and Dekker has some talent and skills himself, but we just don't know how their vision will play out for The Predator. Suburbia has not worked on the big screen in Predator movies so far, but I think it has a lot of potential, it just has to be handled carefully.
