It's pretty safe to say that unless they are going to use the films as a reference, it really doesn't matter. Now setting the film before Predators and after Predator 2 does somewhat insinuate there may be a reference or tie into the other films! That would be awesome if they were connected somehow, odviously it would refer to Predator, maybe the CIA team from Predator 2 under the leadership of Agent Garber and then show Arnold turning down a job and recommending Royce because he will cross the line Dutch would not and Royce upon completing his task and being taken. Or at least show someone mentioning Royce completing his task and gone missing. At the end of the credits they should show Liam Nesson contacting the Beserker Predator via Rouces' walkie talkie and doing his famous lines i.e. I have a particular set of skills..... I will find you, and I will kill you!! BAM!! I just wrote the movie!!

@Chris
The stolen tech idea is new and different enough to work on its own. But what if we combine it with the idea that carrying Predator weapons is a privilege?
In order for the humans to be found worthy of wielding Predator technology/weaponry, they must first be put through the trials and rituals the Predators endure. The Predator in the story would try to tell the human hunters that they're "doing it wrong!" It's an honor to hunt with the Predator weaponry. Especially with the combi-staff, which is normally earned after a trial.. Essentially, the Predator tech must be earned (not stolen or found). The humans in the story are worthy prey, although they are not yet worthy of wielding combi-sticks. Predators who complete the trials associated with the staff are presented with the weapon as a tool to aid in their hunts. The shoulder blaster, discs, and other Predator tools are normally awarded after the trials...
Maybe Dutch discovers that their ceremonial hunts are conducted out of tradition and function as a way to increase status and solidarity within Predator groups; therefore, the hunt is central to Predator culture. The humans would need to learn how to actually become the Predator, then show the Predators that they know what they're doing with the recovered tech. If the humans can survive a makeshift version of the trials associated with the combi-staff, then the Predator will consider letting them keep the staff (as well as other types of technology recovered from a Predator craft). They must be worthy...
The Predators gave Harrigan an old human weapon at the end of Predator 2 as a customary sign of respect. A couple of the elders might feel like they owe something to Dutch... Which would confuse the hell out of him. A Predator stalks him, approaches slowly, uncloaks, and presents Dutch with something that they were unable to give him years ago. The Predator finally tracks Dutch down and gifts him with an ancient weapon as a token of respect for surviving the earlier ordeal. At first, Dutch thinks the thing is trying to hunt him again. It turns out that it just wants to give him a weapon his ancestors used in their hunts: the elders feel that Dutch earned it.
I am not sure if I want another Predator movie. It seems to me that they are recycling ideas. The picture looks like it could have been a Predator thrown into some Transformers movie or maybe it is just me that think so.
I think so too. Fox are clearly strengthening up their top tier properties. I see The Predator to be on the same scale as Alien: Covenant.
I have confidence in Shane Black and in the fact that Twentieh Century Fox has basically given Shane a good, big budget.
Now I don't recognize this image! Is it a teaser of the new film? He resembles Berserker's biohelmet, AvP armer. That Pred skull on his shoulder means his a bad blood maybe. Did the super Preds return to restock for the game preserve !?
Going to be a interesting new few years, 2017 and 2018 for Alien and Predator Fans
I've had the same thoughts on this. Dutch would eventually take over the old general that originally paired him with Dillon. The only thing that bothers me is his morality. In a line of work where you have to use people as ponds to a greater cause, he's not really down with that. The hermit idea was also a good approach. To that i would add due to his character and morallity i mentioned, he hunts Preds for 2 reasons. 1) Vengeance and self procclaimed defender of earth against Preds. 2) To prevent the government from getting ahold of Pred technology which we are not ready to wield. About the other films, there is no need to even mess with them. They all have a place within the universe. AvP showed their maturity ritual. AvPR showed when things go wrong, you send a cleaner. PREDATORS expanded the universe and introduced the Bad Bloods. Predator 2 was a just a change of environment, same plot. Personally as a fanboy, I loved all the films. Could things of been better, sure. Could the film's have benefitted with a bigger budget, of course. Since I don't have a say at all on the movies production and don't have the money to make my own I simply accept what is giving and hope for the best. It's not like anybody cares for what I have to say. I'm stoked about this upcoming film though. A decent budget and somebody to has ties with the original and cares about the film. I'm all in. Keep them coming!!
@Ht27str, the difference being with this idea is that the Humans would be on somewhat of an equal footing with the Predator. By wielding Predator tech and weaponry, the battle would be more evenly matched. But perhaps the Predator could introduce even more, advanced tech, like what they're doing with Independence Day: Resurgence.
There needs to be a change to the plotline. There needs to be something "new" that we haven't seen before, not just mere fan service.
Twentieh Century Fox has basically given Shane Black a massive budget to what he wants unlike the previous films which had a smaller budget as Shane Black said that this would be an "event film".
Obviously, Fox sees the potential as they are revamping the Alien series as well. They are learning from Marvel and are going to follow suit. Hence, why Scott said that Alien and Bladerunner are within the same universe.
I rhink Shane Black has a good footing with this film, to bring a fresh narrative and he also has a good background, good stories. So, I'm looking forward to seeing what Shane will do.
Honestly not expecting much just hoping they go Predator 2 with it and go balls to the wall with whatever they decide so even if it's not a good movie it's fun.
10/10 Will watch the movie no matter what the story line will be :)
Don't mean to rattle any cages but this has been done AvP:R. Send Pred to get rid of evidence. Really looking forward this film no matter what direction it takes!
Loved PREDATOR: Concrete Jungle, ID be totally fine with a Hot Toys figure if it. But the Ritual Armor is one I'd love to see!

Shame there aren't any decent HD pics of it online.
Nice. Compare it to an overrated, overhyped movie that was boring. Nice...
I'm looking forward to this new, and hopefully better Predator sequel. My two cents thought of a sequel would have had Major 'Dutch' Schaefer and Anna getting married because of bonding of such an event. Years later, NASA-NSA-CIA aware of 'the Predators' now, watching carefully for a return especially as the temperatures raise in cycles worldwide. 'Dutch' now a Major General and Anna, stationed in MacDill,SOCOM in Tampa, happen to hear the news about the weather being the hottest on current record. Enter the Predators, bent on revenge for losing on of their own when the one sent a message and set his nuke charge in the forest. Out to track down that one human....'Dutch'. Predators, SOCOM, Tampa....
I agree completely with Lone ^..
Let's look at a few examples with the budget of the best film in a franchise compared to the worst in the franchise:
ALIEN - 11 million USD
ALIEN Resurrection - 75 million USD.
Star Wars (1977, original) - 11 million USD
Star Wars Phantom Menace - 115 million USD.
Predator - 15 million USD
Predators - 75 million USD.
The success of a film as fuck all to do with how much money is thrown at it. It all comes down to the TALENT involved in its creation, which the industry is sadly lacking in these days.
I just had a bad case of deja vu......throwing tons of money into it is not the answer, the more money the control freaks at Fox put in, the more they will interfere.
If I was Shane Black I would stay well clear!
That is they (Fox) will mess it up. If they think that Prometheus was that good then I see no reason to trust them since it implies that Fox will interfere and mess it up but I am not very interested in the Predator franchise anyways.
I found a grammar error. It should be next, not nex. Other than that, I can't wait to see how this turns out. Also, I liked the AvP movies. They could have been better, but I still liked them. I like Wolf Predator the most. He was a badass.
A "believe it when I see it" promise.
Good! It takes money to make money! I'm glad they are taking this movie serious. Really looking forward to this movie! Keep them coming@
Promo from COMMANDO (1985) era
I can imagine a real hunting party, with Arnold returning (even a trilogy). They certainly need to be creative in a way they haven't been, since the first go. I almost can envision his character, being the King of Predators; as he was snapped-up by them sometime after the first film, and taken to their homeworld. His aging process slowed incredibly there; eventually, he became their supreme ruler (like Governator in Califorina). Plus of course, he relished in all the pleasures of this world; however, after several hundred years, he became bored and desired to return to Earth ...with his Predator army (also a secret agneda concerning immorality). I think it's about time for Arnold to play a baddy, again (wishful thinking, I know).

That would be awesome. For it to be a true sequel, we have to know what happened to Dutch!? That is about the biggest mystery in the franchise there is?
DARK NEBULA - I know! I attempted to speak sweetly and politely as well. Perhaps if we throw credit cards and contracts of life-long servitude we will achieve the desired result? :)
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing's happening :(
@Leto
Well deserts lack any high rised structures that the Predators are very fond off unless of course we have some buildings for them to jump on.
I think, AVP will be ignored. Becaus AVP it's - crossover, not canon for the Predator or Alien.
>>>Where should the film be set?<<<
Predator -- Jungle
Predator 2 - City
I think, Predator 4 must be in desert! This is the best place for predators: heat, war, and a hot spot - a perfect place for hunting.
I hope they Ignore AVP and go off in its own universe without a single reference to Alien. I don't get people always wanting to connect Alien and Predator together, they are two different movie series. Stop connecting them as if they are in one universe!
Hoping for lots of action and to remain true to the series. Costume design would be great to follow AvP:R ie Slimmer design. I would love it if they remain true to what predators are. We got a glimpse of it in AvP:R's final battle between Wolf and the Predalien and even on AvP's final battle, for a second with Scar impaling the Alien queen mid air. PREDATORS are the ultimate hunters, equipped with top of the line weapons. Masters of hand to hand, weapons experts ie Staffs, shuriken, combo-stick, gaunlets, swords, etc. We've mostly seen them using their plasma casters and then some minor brute force fights. In PREDATORS 2010 WE got to see to preds duke it out to the fatal end, for the crucified classic pred. Unfair fight in my opinion but it was a good fight. I feel like I've rambled on enough, slimmer more mobile Predators please and for once, let the Predator WIN!! Thanks for your time.
On the Predator home-world.
A brief glimpse given in AVP:R, but who cares about that movies?
Perhaps a human spaceship crashes into the home-world and is besieged by juvenile predators (the adults are obviously off-world playing bloodsport). The humans then escape just before the adults return.
This would allow us to see the extended predator civilization.
It's a good idea insofar as rebooting Total Recall was a good idea; insofar as rebooting RoboCop was a good idea.
No, it's not a good idea. Because you do not better something that becomes a cult classic.
Cronenberg rebooted the 50's B-movie, The Fly, and boy what a cult classic the reboot became. But you'd be foolish to reboot or indeed remake it now.
No. So don't reboot cult classics, which Predator now is. Instead reboot the mediocre stuff - including sequels - I mean, why can't we say, Alien 3 did not hit the spot so we will reboot that particular sequel?
My answer is: yes.
Let us expunge Predators from our minds. The intentions were good and noble, but the execution was not worthy.
The new race/species just didn't work for me for two main reasons: it diminished the original Predator race; and the tribalism seemed to dumb down what should be a complex and superiorly advanced alien civilization.
But I appreciate this is not the forum to pour scorn on Predators (I'll save my diatribe about how difficult it is to buy into the idea that a fat, schizophrenic manages to dodge super Predators for several "seasons"), so I'll just repeat that I think it should be disregarded as canon -- which, by the way, we should also do if Predator 4 sucks too.
Durp004: I agree but it does at least make it easier to remember the titles of the movies.
Can the Predator movies get an award for least creative titles?
Predator
Predator 2
Predators
The Predator
Probably took a total of 20 seconds to come up with all of those.
I do as well!
"The Predator"
I like how that sounds.
Agreed guys, it can't be a re-hash. They need to explore new ground. What made PREDATORS cool is it took place on another planet. The downside is I wasn't hugely fond of the casting and we didn't get to see much else of the PREDATOR culture, besides a few short cut-scenes. I'd say, set it in the future, on a remote planet. Not a Predator hunting ground either, maybe a colony? I'd be happy with an expansion of the franchise, like Prometheus is doing for Alien. If it goes the route of Jurassic World or Star Wars, in which they rely heavily on a tried and true formula, I feel it won't live up to expectations. It needs a new angle.
^Pretty much this. Trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice is very difficult. Especially in the same location. I don't expect Predator 4 to be much better than, say, Predators (which I think is a truly well made little film), but I don't want them to sink into AvP levels of lunacy. It's fun for an occasion, but not a stand out for repeat viewings.
