that poster is amazing
Don't forget, The Terminator was on a smaller budget but grand, implied themes going-on off-screen and story telling that sets-up story arcs and characterization that Cameron picked-up upon, exploited and put the accelorator on resulted in Terminator 2 which was excellent in its own right as a film.
I thought Adrian Brody sucked in Predators, but then again I didn't really like much in that movie at all. The character was unlikable literally leading everyone into a trap so he could get a look at the predators. On top of his bland acting. He might work is serious films but a movie like Predator requires some over the top acting. Loved Arnold and Danny in their respective leads; much more fun to follow that Adrian Brody ever was.
James Franco might work, depends what they do with it. I won't criticize him till I see the movie, but not something that I hate right off the bat.
I HATED, I absolutely HATED Adrian Brody in Predators!!! I UTTERLEY HATED Adrien Brodys casting and I fucking DETEST already the idea of a weedy James Franco in a franchise that is based upon hewen from granite muscle. Three Hundred Spartans-type grizzly Human aggression pitted against inter-galactic alien aggression!!
Once again, they're getting away from the core-subject matter that made PREDATOR so-fucking-EXCELLENT!!!
James Franco as a supporting role in the veign of Hawkings or something from the first f8lm or Poncho then thats fine! But as the main lead, WHY won't the Rock - Dwayne Johston do it, or Gerard Butler, Idris Elba even! Giving it a twist of sorts. Even include Dave Baustia as a kind of Blain character who probably turns-out psycologically like Mac.
I would go so-far as to say why not Jamie Foxx for a Carl Weathers 'Dillon'-like character without copying it to-much the same. What about Samuel L. Jackson being part of proceedings like the General at the begining of Predator or him as a Carl Weathers-like character similar to Dillon too maybe.
Brody was great because he's a great actor. I guess the role probably wouldn't require a great actor, but yeah, Franco is just kind of lame. He just comes across as James Franco in every role.
@Patient Leech, I actually remember thinking Adrian Brody was an odd choice for Predators. But, he turned out to be alright. I've stopped jumping the gun with casting until I've seen some footage, sometimes actors can surprise you.
As for Schwarzenegger, as far as we know, he could still reprise his role or at least show up in a cameo. Nothing official has yet been released to confirm or deny that.
Yes, we need Schwarzenegger back!
Agree with Leech. Franco is lame! What happened to Schwarzenegger???
Hmm it would be interesting to see Franco in the lead role. As Membrane pointed out, pretty much anyone can beef up for a role, but will they really be able to turn in a good performance. I like him as an actor and I think he can do it, but it would be a departure from his normal role type.
I have to say, Bale being in The Predator? Oh man that would have been great.
******EDIT*****
OHHHHHHHH I thought the article said Dave Franco for some reason. OhHHH maaaan I have to tell you guys, I am (for some odd reason) OBSESSED with James Franco.
My comments about this being a departure from his normal role still ring true haha
If Franco hits the gym to "look" a little more the part of a combat vet/leader, I suppose his acting could carry the part. Although, Bale has proven, to me at least, in previous roles he could pull it off. I wasn't sure about Adrian Brody, but he was decent in the last one, which is why I feel the acting is most important. Anyone can hit the gym and improve their physique to match the stereotypical military/action look. But then again, Shane Black was in 'Predator' and was thin. Who knows... :-p
Good lord, those are ALL bad choices for a Predator movie. Adrian Brody from Predators was great, I thought.
I just hope that it's rated R. The Predator is quick, cunning, fast and intelligent and most of all there is a large amount of believability.
Nice. But would have been so much better with a transparent no eyed cowl.....
Predator riding a Xenomorph T-Rex. Your argument is invalid.
It should be noted the budget is said to be "above" 20 million. I don't think we need to he concerned about the film's budget, Black and Fox are in agreement, The Predator is going to be an event film - big bucks.
Given the proposed scope of the movie, this is a real shame. It would make things tough for any director, but not impossible!
I wish Shane the best of luck, and am looking forward to the end result.
I've also been thinking about this franchise and how they can bring Danny Glover and Arnold in the same screen since Shane Black has written work with both actors in previous films (lethal weapon saga). Maybe give Arnold the role as Dutch being held responsible for his squad disappearing in the jungle, bcuz someone has to be accountable for something like that and a retired detective Harrigan becoming the hermit role, losing his mind and obsessed with what had happened to him during his jurisdiction in L.A. And locates Dutch in a maximum security prison or somewhere like that and both characters discuss among one another about what they have discovered and found as souvenirs and also giving the audience an opportunity to flashback to a 1715 era, where a character called Rapheal so-&-so (name engraved on the old school pistol from Predator 2) maybe even exploring his brief encounter with the predator race???and also introducing a female yautja???(google it, if you don't think it's a bomb idea) would love to see a female bodied predator with a badass mask and swords, and advanced tech, etc... this is just my idea that I think someone more honorable can add more too, but to be perfectly honest, I will be happy with whatever move Shane makes as long as they invite "BOTH" Arnold and Danny Glover bcuz the original predator movies were classics to me and many others that can relate and if your gonna bring back one icon for the sequel? Why not hit two birds with one stone???? "The door swings both ways...."
I agree, the figure seems insanely low. But I mean it did say "above 20" so perhaps 20 is the benchmark and films are categorized based on whether their budget falls below or above that threshold? Who knows, but from what I gather Fox will be pouring a lot more cash into this film than 20 Mill.
when you read the note by clicking the link, you can see information about several movies and the cipher of 20million $ appears as orientative only. With 20M they wouldnt pay a single tv spot..sorry for my english
Yeah this seems slightly low for a Predator movie. My hope remain high nonetheless
Is that the new Predator in the banner? It looks amazingly awesome.
Taking into account inflation this would be the lowest budget for a Predator movie, and filming in Vancouver, makes me worry about this movie despite Shane Blacks involvement.
sounds interesting now that all things considered aside from the typical "hunter" plot.....
Well i hope they really consider the A-Z of the Predator Origins and Agenda and get the back bones for the Origin and Agenda settled on.
So we dont end up with the confusion and change of plans that we had with the Space Jockey and Xeno Origins. From Alien.
He questioned how good it could be, not the likelihood. Jaws is the correct response.
I'm not particularly savvy about the production either, but to knock something off simply because one doesn't think much of the premise is shortsighted.
I'm glad it will at least acknowledge the other movies. While the two follow ups to Predator weren't anything to ride home about I never saw them as so bad they needed to be retconned and I hate Predators.
I would consider Jaws a heavy outlier when it comes to something like that. Could the movie be something like Jaws? Sure, but I wouldn't put money on it, if giant sharks alone could draw such big crowds Syfy channel would be rolling in money since they used to seem to try the idea every other week.
Fixed the spelling errors, thanks @KingKaijuGojira.
@Ht27str, GMan is right. A film about a massive shark will definitely spark interest with moviegoers. Hell, I plan seeing it! But the two definitely overlap genres and demographics, so it's a good thing Predator moved.
You spelt Megalodon wrong
"I am not that intrigued by a movie on a big ass shark. How good can that be?"
Jaws (1975) - Considered the original summer blockbuster, won three academy awards and was nominated for best picture. Also considered one of Spielberg's greatest films.
So how good could it be? Potentially really good, since that concept has proven itself before. Don't knock it, 'til you see it.
That fine I guess, but I liked the first date to honor to anniversary!! Should of kept it on principal. I am not that intrigued by a movie on a big ass shark. How good can that be?
So, when Feb rolls around and your wife or GF asks you to take her to see a Valentine's Day movie, we now have one.
It's pretty safe to say that unless they are going to use the films as a reference, it really doesn't matter. Now setting the film before Predators and after Predator 2 does somewhat insinuate there may be a reference or tie into the other films! That would be awesome if they were connected somehow, odviously it would refer to Predator, maybe the CIA team from Predator 2 under the leadership of Agent Garber and then show Arnold turning down a job and recommending Royce because he will cross the line Dutch would not and Royce upon completing his task and being taken. Or at least show someone mentioning Royce completing his task and gone missing. At the end of the credits they should show Liam Nesson contacting the Beserker Predator via Rouces' walkie talkie and doing his famous lines i.e. I have a particular set of skills..... I will find you, and I will kill you!! BAM!! I just wrote the movie!!

@Chris
The stolen tech idea is new and different enough to work on its own. But what if we combine it with the idea that carrying Predator weapons is a privilege?
In order for the humans to be found worthy of wielding Predator technology/weaponry, they must first be put through the trials and rituals the Predators endure. The Predator in the story would try to tell the human hunters that they're "doing it wrong!" It's an honor to hunt with the Predator weaponry. Especially with the combi-staff, which is normally earned after a trial.. Essentially, the Predator tech must be earned (not stolen or found). The humans in the story are worthy prey, although they are not yet worthy of wielding combi-sticks. Predators who complete the trials associated with the staff are presented with the weapon as a tool to aid in their hunts. The shoulder blaster, discs, and other Predator tools are normally awarded after the trials...
Maybe Dutch discovers that their ceremonial hunts are conducted out of tradition and function as a way to increase status and solidarity within Predator groups; therefore, the hunt is central to Predator culture. The humans would need to learn how to actually become the Predator, then show the Predators that they know what they're doing with the recovered tech. If the humans can survive a makeshift version of the trials associated with the combi-staff, then the Predator will consider letting them keep the staff (as well as other types of technology recovered from a Predator craft). They must be worthy...
The Predators gave Harrigan an old human weapon at the end of Predator 2 as a customary sign of respect. A couple of the elders might feel like they owe something to Dutch... Which would confuse the hell out of him. A Predator stalks him, approaches slowly, uncloaks, and presents Dutch with something that they were unable to give him years ago. The Predator finally tracks Dutch down and gifts him with an ancient weapon as a token of respect for surviving the earlier ordeal. At first, Dutch thinks the thing is trying to hunt him again. It turns out that it just wants to give him a weapon his ancestors used in their hunts: the elders feel that Dutch earned it.
I am not sure if I want another Predator movie. It seems to me that they are recycling ideas. The picture looks like it could have been a Predator thrown into some Transformers movie or maybe it is just me that think so.
I think so too. Fox are clearly strengthening up their top tier properties. I see The Predator to be on the same scale as Alien: Covenant.
I have confidence in Shane Black and in the fact that Twentieh Century Fox has basically given Shane a good, big budget.
Now I don't recognize this image! Is it a teaser of the new film? He resembles Berserker's biohelmet, AvP armer. That Pred skull on his shoulder means his a bad blood maybe. Did the super Preds return to restock for the game preserve !?
