The first theatrical trailer for Prey (Predator 5) debuted yesterday and gave us our first real look at the thrilling new film and its Comanche tribe as it faces off against a vicious new Predator. The trailer premiered with the Comanche people speaking English which disappointed some fans online who had hoped the Comanche people would have been represented speaking their native language in the film. Today we've learned that director Dan Trachtenberg is way ahead of us on this and has confirmed that Prey will premiere with an actual Comanche language dub with English subtitles!
Speaking to ComicBook(.com), Dan Trachtenberg and Prey producer Jhane Myers revealed the following:
We do have like Comanche throughout the film, but when you first choose to watch the film, this will be the first time that the Comanche language, and I’m Comanche, by the way, this will be the first time that our language is in a full dub and also subtitled for the whole film. So that’s really important to me and the language component’s very important because this will also be the first time that a film has been completely (dubbed). You get the option of watching it in Comanche on a brand new film. I know that Navajo has done it twice, with Star Wars, but Star Wars was 30 years old when that came out, Finding Nemo was 20 years old. But here we are, this movie resets a whole lot of paradigms, and one of them is the language component.
The original intent for Prey was to be filmed entirely in Comanche, so it's great to see moviegoers will have a chance to see both Comanche and English dubbed versions of the film when it arrives this August!
