Filming on Dan Trachtenberg's Predator movie is currently underway and new updates from the film's producers reveal that the film will be a prequel to all other Predator films and will introduce audiences to the very first instance Predators ever hunted on Earth!
Officially being called SKULL (dropping the "s" from the previous working title of SKULLS), this fifth Predator aims to go back to what made the first Predator film work so well, as producers John Davis and John Fox explain:
It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force. It actually has more akin to The Revenant than it does any film in the Predator canon. You’ll know what I mean once you see it.
It’s going to be, I believe, the second best — or the first… or it may be equal to the first one. Right? I feel like the first one was a wonderful, interesting movie and I know what worked about it. I feel like we kind of never got back there again. We ended up in different places. I think this is a worthy complement to the first one. It’s going to be as good.
The new timeline Skull takes place in also renders both Alien vs. Predator films no longer canon.
As optimistic as the previous quotes leave us feeling about the latest Predator installment, Davis and Fox do make note that although the film was conceived to be an R-rated film, it's quite possible it could end up being PG-13, which undoubtedly would concern us fans.
