It seems there is a dramatic shift happening with the Predator and Alien franchises behind closed doors at Disney and 20th Century Studios. Following on from news yesterday that a new stand-alone Alien film which disconnects from other Alien films, now we've learned that the upcoming new Predator film titled Prey by Dan Trachtenberg will also be taking the franchise in a dramatically new direction.
20th Century Studios President Steve Asbell recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and divulged some interesting details about Prey, specifically the time in history the film takes place in and how this Predator movie will be taking a creative swing, as he says, from other established entries in the franchise:
You can take big creative swings — which you’ll see with Prey, which we’ll launch this summer. A Predator movie set in the Great Plains in 1719 by Dan Trachtenberg.
Prior to this news we knew Prey would be taking place sometime in the early 1700-1800s but now we have a concrete year to reference.
As we learn more we'll be sure to keep you updated!
